That a dog is called Pepita Banana is not very common, but unfortunately the severe abuse to which she has been subjected is, ending up being abandoned in terrible conditions. A neighbor from the Almeria town of Berja saw the dog through the fence that closes the abandoned cemetery located on the outskirts of the town. He suspected that if the dog was there it was because someone could have thrown her over the fence, and when he managed to see her from a closer distance, he was able to see a very serious cut on her neck. The dog was terrified and starving; if she did not receive urgent help and veterinary care, she would die without remission.
He brought her food regularly and little by little he managed to gain her trust until he was able to catch her and transfer her to a veterinary center where she would receive emergency assistance. The dog had a very deep cut on her neck caused by the collar she was wearing, made of leather and pieces of wire. The explanation of the facts can be as simple as it is absurd and indecent: most likely the individual who took care of Pepita when she was a puppy, put a collar on her that fit her small neck. Then time passed and Pepita grew, but her necklace did not. How great would this guy's indifference and inattention towards the dog that he had under his responsibility be, that he didn't even realize that the collar was gradually cutting Pepita's throat, and when he saw it, the wound was so serious that he decided that The best thing he could do was take her to the abandoned cemetery on the outskirts of the town and, when no one saw him, throw her over the fence so that she would remain locked there and die there from the infection of her wound, the dehydration, the hunger and desolation.
After being rescued, Angélica contacted El Refugio, we took her in and our veterinary team continued with the medical care and pampering that has meant that today Pepita Banana is fully recovered and looking forward to finding a family to adopt her so she can start a new life. because what he had until now was “a life to forget”…
“It saddens us enormously to see that among all of us there are individuals who show such a lack of respect and sensitivity towards the lives of other beings, and towards life itself. On the other hand, we feel very happy to have been able to help Pepita Banana be safe and healthy today. We have given him such a cheerful name to try to help erase his sad and recent past. If anyone wants to adopt her, please write us an e-mail to adoption@elrefugio.org ,” declared Nacho Paunero, president of El Refugio.
Once again, thanks to all our partners, donors and volunteers, it is thanks to you that we can help so many animals in need, like Pepita Banana, to find their way to a healthy, dignified and happy life: THANK YOU!!
